What is a Responsive Website?

A responsive website (mobile friendly) is a website that is designed to be viewable on a TV to a phone and any device in-between. A Web designer will create the site so it uses low bandwidth because it is only one website. The advantage to having a responsive website is simply, your client can view your site on the go. Most everyone can agree that more and more people are using their smart phone and tablets to find the information they need. If you do not have a responsive website then you could be missing out on clients. A good example would be the family protection center website below, which was a lead generation site. I created this as a responsive website (for my full-time employer) and within a month it was out performing a website that we had online for six years! This was due to a high volume of mobile users filling out the quote form on the go! So just think about what you are trying to do with your website and decide if it could be right for you. It would cost a little more than a standard website but it is well worth it! If you have any questions just leave a comment below and I will responsed.

Here are a couple of examples of responsive web sites I have designed:
Alliance Life USA
Good Samaritan Bonus
Mortgage Protection

Web Designers

If you are a web designer interested in learning about responsive design here are a couple of good frameworks.

There are a couple different responsive frameworks out there to help you get started. There is Gumby 960 framework and Bootstrap. They both have great documentation and good examples to follow. I have used both, but I have been leaning more toward Bootstrap lately. One reason is because I like to implement font awesome which works well with Bootstrap. I used Bootstrap and font awesome on this Greensboro Web Design site.

  1. Thank you for your work in this article. I have a quick, maybe unrelated questions, do you think I need to get education on photoshop or dreamweaver if I wanted to start designing sites on platforms other than wordpress? I look forward to your reply!
