IE9 A problem displaying the website caused Internet Explorer to refresh the webpage using compatibility View

What is happening is if some websites uses Helvetica fonts as default, the bug in IE 9 is breaking the web page and not displaying.

You will have to remove the Helvetica fonts in your font library. I had to remove a few before it worked for me.

Good Luck! I was really surprised at this issue, but then working with IE I am not all that surprised. Microsoft can’t seem to fix their flaws before forcing people to buy another product of theirs that works half A$#%#$%.

The machine I’m working on doesn’t have any Halvetica fonts, unless there are other forms with different names.
Please help, none of the pages I go to will load.

      Hello Rspike25,
No pages are loading from the internet or just from your site? If any site is not loading in your browser then it could be some kind of connection issue. If it is only from your website, can you please answer some of the questions below so I can try to help you trouble shoot the issue. Have you tested it in different browsers? Are you using php code in your code?

I should have been clearer. I went to a half dozen sites or more and they don’t load all the way or stay loaded; and IE9 gives the ‘trying to refresh in compatibility view’ notification. After I posted here on the 17th I was able to get Chrome on the machine and there were no problems in Chrome; also we rolled back to IE8 and everything works fine. I’m under the impression IE9 worked fine for a while and then this problem arose. I was looking for a straight forward solution about a specific update or something that is causing this; and I was trying to avoid a convoluted whitch hunt uninstalling things methodically until it started working. My boss can use Chrome until a straight forward explanation of the problem is brought to light. It’s a good for Microsoft they don’t rely heavily on Internt Explorer as a product 🙂

Thank you very much for your time.

I hope this can end up helping people with this problem who don’t have Helvetica.

          RSpike,
I would not put it past the fact that IE9 is buggy. Most of, if not all, of Microsoft products are unstable when they release them. Sorry I could not help further. Hope you get it working and let me know if I can help on anything else. I can try my best to help figure out a solution.

          Thanks

Im having this same problem. I got symptons of the helvetica bug but don’t have helvetica font. Any solution yet? IE9 was working fine until a week ago. The only thing changed was in chrome, facebook was dispaying overlapping fonts everywhere and a few days later it fixed itself but then this started happening in IE9. I can’t visit my usual sites without enabling “ignore font styles” in accessibility mode. So i definitely think is font related. I just don’t know which. And this mode makes sites ugly.

             Dear Zweii,
I have not came up with a solution for this problem yet. I think it is a bug in IE. Hopefully microsoft will update or better yet get rid of IE (yea right). Sorry and good luck and if I come up with a solution I will post back here.

            Thanks

            Thanks for the reply!
I actually have an idea that i haven’t got to yet. I have another Win7 PC and the IE9 still works normally on that one. I intend to copy every font and install it into this problematic one. I’ll post the result once i stop procrastinating.

Cool! That sounds great. Let me know what the results are when you put the fonts on there. Thanks and good luck!

I ran into this problem while developing a site. It was triggered by a figure element with an overflow: scroll; CSS rule. I changed it to overflow: auto; and it stopped triggering compatibility mode.
